Happy Chickie Day!!

Happy Mother's Day to my mother...and my daughters...and my granddaughters.

This first picture is my mothers high school graduation portrait. What a good looking young woman.
This picture was taken on one of our San Diego trips. We were probably checking into the hotel and waiting to get our room keys. We always got there before check in time. This is a candid of Chickie in my dressing room wearing her favorite red sweat shirt.

Another candid of Chickie in the favorite red sweat shirt. Today, Saturday, I am going out to see Chickie in Boulder City. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about and need my mom. It is hard being an orphan. There are times when I need to call her to remind me of different things that only she remembers. I wish I had written down more of her personal history.

Fortunatly I asked grandma to send me a personal history. I can't remember if it was sent to me while at spring mtn. or on my mission but I love that two page letter in her handwriting about her life on the Mississippi. Favorite chickie quote... "move it dork"-- She did'nt mince words another favorite quote "the kids don't play on sunday! No speaka de english" Other than these funny outbursts Grandma was really patient with us kids. for example the spaggetti incedent.
I think I learened how to save money from her. She was a coupon cutter to the core. I mostly remeber her as having a modest place at quail ridge with a small TV and a lawn chair with a pad. And a hide-A-bed. She always did something for us kids on our birthdays ,I assume she never missed sending cards to uncle Jacks kids and Nick and Brady either. She had a great sense of humor and she would get a kick out the name "old dirty bastard" when he was in the news for Dirty being Dirty. I remeber getting the news of her passing on a snowy day at Oklahoma state university. It was in the morning and I remember just going to work and not dwelling on any sad thoughts. When people who have lived a long and fruitful life die, sure I am sad but at the same time I think praise God .. She finally gets to rest. And leave her frail and tired body. As old as Chickie got she hiked that distance between the bus stop and our house to come fold our laundry. As I am writing this I am thinking WOW she really was a selfless, fun, and wise woman.. oh yah one more memory. one time I was singing and grandma said " don't quit your day job" who says that to thier grandson huh?

Wow, both you and Mom said it best. Here's to Chickie, the person who got "Look where your nipples are!" first.

Oh wow! Thank you guys for the great memories I think it has been so long since I slowed down and thought about these wonderful times. I think we get so busy with the everyday to really sit down and remember the beautiful lessons we can learn from a life lived so well and so fully. Here's to you chicky babes, the grandparent that really lives and loves inside all of us to this day, I don't think anyone will ever forget you or your legacy. I know that we will see you on the flip flop.

Mom-I love you more than I can even express in words. You have put up with so much from me and never miss a beat. You let me have my feelings and you are kind even when my feelings are not. You amaze me, you truly do, I appreciate all you do for us, that you have warmly welcomed Ethan into your life, and that you speak your mind when things are not justly being handled with any of your children, Good ones or bad ones. With me you show so much patience and teaching, Thank you for not giving upon me in my darkest times and for standing by me while I continue to rebuild a life of dignity and strength. I love you.

My sisters, I thank you for being great mommies to my kids cousins. because of your selflessness as mothers my kids have wonderful examples in life to follow. I have enjoyed being moms together.

I have a tribute to all the mothers.

Grandma was one foxy lady!
I sure do miss her for many reasons but mostly cause she only got to meet two of my kids and there are times I wish she was around so I could tell her what so and so said or did! I know she would've just gotten a kick out these great grand babies! She was the original grandma great! And boy, was she ever GREAT!!!
