The adventures of Paige... 5 year-old run-away!

Paige learned to ride a two-wheeler bike a couple of months ago and after a rocky start she's completely confident and loves it! Every time she hears the garage open she runs outside for her bike. I've been sitting outside with her in the afternoons lately since the weather is so nice and she gets a chance to get out while Scott's napping. Yesterday Dustin and I went over and did some yard work at Darrington East(our other location) and since the older girls were at their rehearsal for their upcoming play and Scott was snoozing Paige grabbed her bike and rode up and down the street a gazillion times. Matt came out and gave us a hand pulling weeds and offered some good company while Dustin mowed and weeded the backyard. When it was time to go get the other girls we looked for Paige but she was nowhere to be found and neither was her BIKE! I yelled up and down the street and still nothing. For a split second I almost got scared that she had just gone exploring on her bike since she has no fear of such things. Dustin kept cool and just calmly walked over to Darris and Patty's house where Paige had rode to and rang the doorbell and gone inside to play. Patty DID ask her if I knew she was over there and Paige probably put on her most charming smile and said Yes. I gave Paige the same lecture that I'm sure I've given all the kids so far. TELL me WHERE YOU ARE GOING!! At least. Well after we got home from our daily adventure the girls went out to play and Paige did it AGAIN!! She went to Dawson's but this time Patty called and asked if it was OK. Alright, we do watch our children most of the time but every once in a while one escapes. ha ha. I'm scared that there will be a day when Paige will just hop on her bike and head to Grandma's or something crazy like that since she wants to ride everywhere. Love that girl but she's gonna need a tracking device!

I have the same fears. When we first moved here, I was laying down with Quinlan to get him to sleep and Ethan and Rhiannon decided to explore the neighborhood. There weren't many houses at the time but I knocked on every door and finally hailed a policeman patrolling the neighborhood for help. By the time I had done all that they had come back home and were happily watching PBS. The policeman gave them a little talking to and I cried with relief. I don't think they really understood why such a fuss was made. Kids, can't live with 'em, and they always come back when they're hungry.

We lose a kid all the time. We're reasonably sure we only have three, but we may have lost one or two along the way.
